Dr. Todd Roach
Functional Medicine Doctor
Nationally Known Doctors and Experts I follow…
as well as some specifics about what I like and don’t like about each
Dr. Gabrielle Lyon
Functional Medicine Physician
Dr. Lyon specializing in the concept of muscle-centric medicine, which focuses on the largest organ in the body, skeletal muscle, as the key to health and longevity. She is active on social media and one of the only doctors I have found who talks about how important maintaining lean muscle is as we age.
What I love:
she is a women so she tends to talk more about women’s health
she has clinical experience in geriatrics so she has experience with what happens as we age that many doctors don’t have
she got her undergraduate degree at the University of Illini (Go Illini!) and has some roots in the midwest
she is leading the charage when it comes to the importance of dietary protein especially as we get older
Not so much:
she is a beautiful woman, but I wish her social media presence was a little less focused on her clevage and tatoos 🙈
Still I think her ideas are based on solid science and what she talks about makes sense to me.
Dr. Mark Hyman
Functional Medicine Physician
Dr. Hyman is one of the foundational functional medicine doctors and was privtal in inception of the Institute of Functional Medicine at The Cleveland Clinc. He has turned his passion for Functional Medicine, real food, nutrition, and wellness into activism, working to change our food system on a global scale
What I love:
he has been ‘talking the talk’ and ‘walking the walk’ for a long time
he is well known and has become a household name in the fight to help people get healthy through lifestyle change instead of pharmaceuticals.
I enjoy his podcast, The Doctor’s Farmacy as well as the spin-off podcast, Broken Brain.
Not so much:
along with his increasing fame, he has gotten much more commercial in the last couple years. With everything he endorses these days, it is starting to feel like he’s more about produce endorcements than functional medicine information.
Still I think what he talks about is important and easy to understand.
Dr. Christiane Northrup
Board-Certified OB/GYN physician
Dr. Northrup has been leading the charge for empowering women to take charge of their own health and wellness for a long time. She is a leading authority in the field of women’s health and wellness, which includes the unity of mind, body, emotions, and spirit. Dr. Northrup teaches women how to thrive at every stage of life.
What I love:
she is a postmenopausal women who is still advocating for women’s health
she has always seemed to take a holistic approach when it come to helping women with their health and wellness
she will well read and found many of her recommendatins and ideas after med school when she was looking to take care of her own health
she has done many PBS specials over the years as she is also a speaker and author
Not so much:
over the last several years, it seems she has been diving more deeply into astrology and other lesser known spiritual practices. While I am not opposed to these ideas, per say, I think she has become a tad bit excessive.
Still I think she is extremely knowledgable and her ideas about women’s health are helpful
Dr. Anna Cabeca
Triple-Board Certified OB-GYN
Dr. Cabeca calls herself the ‘girlfriend doctor’ as she is willing to ‘go there’ and publically talk about intimate issues. She has been through menopause, and many of the products she developed stemmed from her personal journey
What I love:
she is a postmenopausal women so she tends to talk more about women’s health at this stage.
Not so much:
she tends to talk most about her products and books
Still I think her ideas are based on solid science and what she talks about makes sense to me.
